PROPERTIES
The active ingredient of VERIBEN B12 Long-acting is diminazene, a drug of the
diamidines family used as an aceturate salt. Diminazene is highly active against
both Trypanosoma and Babesia spp.
VERIBEN B12 Long acting contains cyanocobalamin (vitamin B12) and
hydroxocobalamin (Vitamin B12a) a long acting analogue of cyanocobalamin.
Injection of hydroxocobalamin gives sustained high blood levels of vitamin B12.
Vitamin B12 is necessary for the synthesis of red blood cells and growth.
The anaemia observed during trypanosomiasis is caused by a rumen stasis
which reduces the synthesis of vitamin B12.
Concurrent long acting vitamin B12 administration, therefore allows a quicker
recovery of haematocrits.
The antipyrine, included in the excipient, ensures a complete solubility of the
active ingredient and helps to aleviate inflammation and fever.
